SYMPOSIUM ON THE FLORA IN NIS
Participation on the VIII Symposium on the Flora of Southeastern
Serbia and surrounding regions
Niš 20-42. July, year 2005.
VIII Symposium on the Flora of Southeastern Serbia and surrounding
regions was dedicated to Flora and Vegetation of Southeastern Serbia
and surrounding regions research.
It is traditionaly organised in different Southeastern Serbian
cities every other year, bringing together experts from our country,
and lately foreign experts too. In the section for Flora and
Vegetation, students of the Department for Biology and Ecology,
members of BSSRS ″Josif Pancic″ presented the paper “Supplement to
Flora of Western Backa“. The authors of the paper “Supplement to
Flora of Western Backa” are Peric Ranko, Knezevic Jelena, Rucando
Marko, Fejes Edina, Nikolic Kristina, Beljin Vojislava and Dacic
Jelena.
In the Algology, mycology and lichenology section, “Fungi of Fruska
gora” was presented by another Society member – Milana Novakovic,
coauthor.
While participating on this symposium, friendships were made,
contacts established, as well as a cooperation with students from
Niš, profesors, academics and other symposium participants.
On the last day of the symposium a hiking was organised, on Suva
mountain (1810 m.) and an exursion to Jelasnicka gorge. The Suva
mountain conceals a rich variety of plant species, especialy those
protected by law, for exaple Ramonda nathalie, and many other
endangered species.
